Speedway City Super Series By Phil Michell 28-09-06 For the first time in a number of years the local South Australian Super Sedan competitors will have a domestic series to contest with the recent announcement of the JD Couriers Speedway City Track Championship. The series will comprise of five rounds at the ultra fast 430 metre oval with the opening round set to take place on October 28. Over the past few months series organizer John Dawson has been working closely with Wendy Turner and now that everything has been finalized he is hopeful that this exciting new series will entice a few more local competitors, and perhaps some interstate drivers, to compete at the Virginia venue. “The idea of this series is to get more cars to race at Adelaide and it gives the drivers something to race for. It has been a long time since the Super Sedans have been a regular class at Speedway City and I am sure that they are going to produce some excellent racing” commented John shortly after announcing the details of the Track Championship. In addition to John being the man behind running the Track Championship he will also undertake the position of Meeting Director at each of the events at Speedway City throughout the summer, making John one of the hardest working members of the Speedway City team. In what should prove to be an added bonus for local Super Sedan fans each round of the series will be shown on local Adelaide Television via the “On the Infield” program on the C31 network. “We have agreed to have the series shown on C31 so hopefully that will increase the awareness of Super Sedans in SA. Each round will go to air within two weeks of the event being run. With any luck that may also help to increase the car count” added John with great enthusiasm. So if you are a fan of Super Sedan racing make sure you make your way to Speedway City and support the mighty tin tops throughout the year, and with the likes of Miller, Vaughan, Ware, Blunden, Stewart, Marchant and Leach all likely to compete it should be a hotly contested series.
