Modified Sedans Challenge for Glory

By Andy Hille 11-10-06

The much anticipated challenge between Sth Australia and Victoria for Modified Production Sedans has now been 100 % confirmed with the announcement of the two major sponsors. The event is being run as a SAMSS  ( Sth Australian Modified Speedway Sedans) promotion in conjunction with the Mildura Speedway Drivers Club, both of whom ran very successful series in their own right last season.

Event organizer, Andy Hille said today he was pleased to announce that along with an already secured sponsor, Speedway Sedan Digest, Carline Mufflers have seen the potential of such an event and have gladly signed on.

This will add further to the support, in which we already give to speedway, said State Dealer Principal Shane Best. Being a National company, and the challenge being run in two states, we saw it as a great way to involve our franchisees in Murray Bridge and Mildura. Both stores were very keen to be involved with speedway as Carline Murray Bridge operator Ken Milne has been a supporter to many drivers over the years as have Mildura Carline Muffler franchisee’s Ken and Kaylene Philp who also took out the National dealership of the year award recently.

Andy Hille from Adelaide and Mat McClure from Mildura collectively put their heads together and came up with the challenge idea late last season when both were involved with the SAMSS Series and the MMM Series. The friendly rivalry between the Victorians and South Australians was always evident on the track, but afterwards in the pits it was a beer and bbq atmosphere, where friendly ribbing spurned the idea to see just who really are the best. Now thanks to some great sponsors we are in a position to put twenty of the best Modified Sedans and drivers to the test with the winning state taking the purse and perpetual trophy along with the bragging rights. Mat went on to add that the event is to be staged in conjunction with the National Super Sedan Series which is touring Australia this season. When they come to Mildura on the March 10th weekend it will be a double header event, with the top echelon of Super Sedans Australia wide and the mighty Modifieds displaying some of the best racing for any category you are going to see. The next night on the 11th will be Murray Bridge’s turn to host the final of the challenge and also sees the wrap up of the National Super Sedans series, so one would expect to witness all drivers striving for glory.

Truly a must see for any sedan fan, so be sure to put these two dates in your diary as you are going to experience  some of the most exciting sedan racing on display.

Andy Hille and Mat McClure would like to thank Grant Woodhams from Speedway Sedan Digest, Shane Best from Carline Mufflers, Murray Bridge Speedway and Mildura Speedway Drivers Club and their committee’s, also Tim Ingham from On The Infield Speedway TV for their support and assistance in putting this show on the track
