MILLER DELIVERS OPENING ROUND WIN By Phil Michell 29-10-06 Bill Miller opened up this 2006/07 season in fine style as he dominated the feature event in the opening round of the JD Couriers Speedway City Super Sedan Track Championship. After starting on the outside of the front row Miller took over the lead from pole sitter Kym Cottrell on lap three and then went on win the 15 lap final by almost half a lap over impressive rookie Daniel Miller. After securing a heat victory and a second placing, Cottrell started the feature from pole with Bill Miller, Daniel Miller, Colin Neville, Andrew Leach and Tony Howlett completing the first three rows. On the start Cottrell got the jump and lead the ten car field before Miller made the race winning lead on lap three. With Cottrell appearing to be holding up the field Miller was able to drive away and within five laps he had skipped away to an impressive lead. At the mid way point of the race Daniel Miller forced his way past Cottrell to take over second with Colin Neville following suit shortly after. The top four remained this way until the chequered flag fell with Bill Miller winning comfortably in a time of 4:04.1, although he was involved with a post race incident which saw Tony Howlett, a lapped car, make contact with the winners Pontiac after the finishing line resulting in Howlett’s Thunderbird making heavy contact with the turn one wall. Following Cottrell home in fifth position was Andrew Leach while Gil Worthley, Dave Harper, Howlett, Shane Dryden and Graham Stewart completed the ten car field. Both Trevor Ware and Ian Leyson failed to start the feature event. Earlier in the night Kym Cottrell, Trevor Ware and Bill Miller each secured a heat win. Points after Round 1 of the JD Couriers Super Sedan Track Championship (Top 5 of 12): 1. Bill Miller, 131 points, 2. Daniel Miller, 107, 3. Kym Cottrell, 98, 4. Colin Neville, 91, 5.
