WARE VICTORIOUS IN ROUND 2 By Phil Michell After a disappointing opening round Trevor Ware bounced back to claim the second round of the JD Couriers Super Sedan Track Championship at Speedway City and as a result he jumped to fourth in the overall series standings. Second across the line in the 15 lap final was opening round victor Bill Miller with Colin Neville claiming his second podium result in as many rounds in the Dave Heyler owned Pontiac Grand Prix. Going into the final impressive rookie Dan Miller in the Enzed Coolacab Pontiac was the man to beat after having two strong heat performances including a heat win. As a result he started the feature from pole position with Bill Miller, Trevor Ware and Colin Neville completing the first two rows. Just prior to the green flag being waved Kym Cottrell pulled to the infield and failed to make the start. After the initial start was called back, due to heavy contact in turn one between Gil Worthley and Dave Harper, Bill Miller lead the field away with Dan Miller, Ware, Neville, Andrew Leach and Gil Worthley following in hot pursuit. As the race progressed Bill Miller began to open what appeared to be a race winning lead over the field and by half race distance he lead the field by almost the length of the front straight. Just past the half race distance Dan Miller threw away his second position as he spun in turn two and went a lap down on the race leader and his mistake elevated Ware into second. It was from this point that the race became extremely interesting as the leader was unable to put a lap on the slower car of Graham Stewart. Bill Miller spent close to three laps behind the #55 of Stewart and the time he lost was enough for Ware to close right in on the pink Pontiac. With Miller encountering difficulties Ware wasted no time in making a classic outside pass on both Miller and Stewart as the cars exited turn four. Ware then went on to record a comfortable win in his Blair Athol Auto Parts Pontiac ahead of Bill Miller, Colin Neville, Andrew Leach, Gil Worthley, Graham Stewart and Dan Miller. After the race Ware was elated to have taken a feature win after damaging the engine in round 1. “It was one of those cases where I was in the best position at the right time. Sometimes it is better to be second than leading the race when you are in lapped traffic. Bill got caught up there for a few laps and I took a risk and went to the outside and it worked. To win any feature race is great but to win in front of a big crowd makes it fairly special” commented Trevor after the feature event. Official points after two rounds of the JD Couriers Super Sedan Track Championship: 1. Bill Miller 240 points, 2. Dan Miller and Colin Neville 186, 4. Trevor Ware 148, 5. Kym Cottrell 143, 6.
