State of Origin, Modified Sedan Style By Phil Michell A new and exciting Modified Sedan Series is set to take place next season with the announcement of the inaugural “South Australia V Victoria Modified Sedan Challenge”. Andy Hille, who was instrumental in running the SAMSS Series last season, is once again behind the new concept as well as Mildura resident Mat McClure. Over the years the rivalry between these two states in all sports has been well documented and the intense competition in this particular racing category is no different. Last season a Victorian driver (Martin Hawson) claimed the South Australian based SAMSS Series, a Victorian won our State Title (Spider McCarthy) and Victorians ran 1 and 2 during the Australian Championship on our home turf! Well this time the South Australian drivers have declared that they will not lose this winner takes all challenge. At this stage the exact details are yet to be finalized but initial talks suggest that each team will comprise of 10 drivers who will battle it out over two nights in an attempt to emerge as the top points scorer with the winner receiving the $1000 prize which will be on offer. The exciting format will be conducted over two consecutive nights of racing with night one being held at the Timmis Speedway at Mildura on March 10. The series will then conclude on March 11 at the Murray Bridge Speedway. During a recent conversation with Andy Hille he revealed that he is thrilled to be running the event and that he is extremely pleased with the dates that have been selected. “Both of these dates coincide with the National Super Sedan Series being run at these tracks on the same nights. The advantages of these two dates is the fact that it will make for a double feature event at both tracks and also the promotional aspect can be achieved a lot cheaper along with the live internet streaming and possible television exposure” he added. As with any championship series it requires a major sponsor and Andy has been lucky enough to have secured Speedway Sedan Digest as a financial supporter. “It is with great pleasure that I announce that Speedway Sedan Digest has come to the fore with invaluable assistance in putting this all together. The publisher of this great magazine, Grant Woodhams, expressed excitement at being involved in this innovative concept as it not only highlights Modified Sedan Racing in Mildura and Murray Bridge, but it will run in conjunction with the Super Sedan Series in which Speedway Sedan Digest also sponsor” added Andy with great appreciation. Andy later went on to say that it is envisaged that this will be come an annual event with a perpetual trophy going to the overall points champion. Stay tuned for further details.
